In The Movies

The inner harbour functions as one of the largest marine film tanks in the UK with an area of water around 5,400 square meters.

The three-masted 450-ton barque Kaskelot (now Le Francais), made her first appearance in Charlestown in the Summer of 1993 for filming of The Three Musketeers, featuring Kiefer Sutherland.

Many film and television stars have walked the cobbles of the harbour for their productions. These include; Helena Bonham-Carter, Joseph Fiennes, Karen Gillan, Tom Hardy, Sam Neill, Charlie Sheen, Matt Smith, Eleanor Tomlinson, Aidan Turner and Mia Wasikowski.

One of Charlestown’s most recent and famous productions was Poldark. Charlestown was a location for this popular television show for Series 1, 2, 3 and 5.

Charlestown is home to hundreds of beautiful white doves. It is reported that Charlestown has been the doves’ home since the filming of Mansfield Park in 1999. The film’s producers brought 200 white doves to feature in one of the closing sequences; and they never left and have since grown in number!

The Harbour Team don’t just coordinate filming at Charlestown Harbour, they also coordinate the marine element of shoots farther afield – either on location or in a studio.
