1907 West Country Trading Ketch
Charlestown is thrilled to be working closely with the crew of Irene to deliver her 2021 sailing season, which includes adventures to Scilly, day trips and more!
Irene is 37m long overall, with an air draft of 30m, which makes her an impressive and stately stage for your next sailing adventure. Built in Bridgwater, she carried cargo of all sorts (including bricks, corn, stone, iron and even live pigs) around the West Coast from 1907 to 1961.
In 1998 Irene moved to the Caribbean, where in 2003 she was gutted by fire and sank off St Maartens. Her owners re-floated her and she was towed back to Cornwall for rebuild, sailing once again in 2009.
Now Irene is the ideal charter boat, with spacious accommodation, a sociable saloon and fantastic deck space. Check out Irene’s latest sailing schedule here.
Length Overall: 37m
Air Draft: 30m (with her topmast)
Day sail guest capacity: 12
Residential guest capacity: 10

Irene has four standard guest cabins, all en suite, with a single bunk above a double. These cabins take a maximum of two guests, so are suitable for couples and individuals alike.
Taking up the entire width of the ship at the aft end, Irene’s state room is something really special. Initially built for the owners, it spans the full width of the ship at the aft end. It sports a large double berth and has it’s shower room separate from its heads (toilet). There is a heart shaped dining table raised at the aft end end which is perfect for a late night game of cards. It also has an interesting chair mounted halfway up the starboard bulkhead which the owner had installed so that he could read a book comfortably when the ship was heeled over.
Irene’s saloon is spacious and sociable, and can comfortably accommodate everyone on board eating together. There is also a professional quality galley kitchen, allowing the crew to turn out hot and delicious food throughout your trip.
