Charlestown Through Your Lens: Our 2026 Photography Competition
Could your photograph feature in the Charlestown Harbour 2027 Calendar?
Everyone sees Charlestown a little differently.
It might be the harbour on a still winter morning, a tall ship arriving through the piers, wildlife spotted along the coast, an afternoon on the water, or simply one of those small moments that feels unmistakably Charlestown.
This summer, we want to see Charlestown through your lens.
We’re launching a new community photography competition, open to photographers of all ages and abilities, to capture the many different sides of Charlestown Harbour.
And you certainly don’t need to be a professional photographer – photos taken on your phone are very welcome.
Your photographs could become part of Charlestown’s story
Selected photographs will feature in the Charlestown Harbour 2027 Calendar, with images from the competition also forming a special Charlestown postcard collection.
We’ll also be sharing some of our favourite entries and the stories behind them through the harbour’s website and social channels.
Photographs don’t have to be taken during the competition. We’d love to see Charlestown throughout the seasons, so have a look through your old photographs and camera rolls too.
Stormy seas, winter light, summer evenings, visiting vessels, wildlife encounters and memories from years gone by are all welcome.
What will you capture?
Entries will be judged across a series of categories celebrating different aspects of Charlestown, with local organisations helping us choose the winners.
Wild Charlestown
The wildlife, marine life, plants, habitats and natural environment around the harbour and coast.
Charlestown Heritage
The harbour’s history, architecture, traditional vessels, maritime heritage and the details that tell its story.
On the Water
Sailing, swimming, paddling, watersports and life in and around the sea.
Harbour Life
The people, events, atmosphere and everyday moments that make Charlestown what it is.
Young Photographer Award
A special award for photographers aged under 18.
We’ll be introducing our judging partners and announcing prizes over the coming weeks.
How to enter
The competition is free to enter and open to all ages and abilities.
You can submit up to three photographs per person, with a separate entry for each photograph.
Alongside your image, we’d love you to tell us a little about it – where it was taken and, if there’s a story behind the photograph, what it means to you.
Entries are open from 14th August until 14th September 2026.
